Create for you, no one else.
We’re more likely to stick with a routine or habit consistently if we’re in a low friction environment. Free from judgement or prying eyes.
Unfortunately, it’s too easy to maintain a fixed mindset. One that supports our fear of judgement and tells us to not upset the status quo.
To really embrace growth, we must do it for ourselves.
This idea was reinforced to me tonight while I was watching various creators on YouTube. A common theme I saw was that they’re creating because they enjoy it. Not for anyone else.
This struck a cord with me.
Who says you can’t write daily?
Who says you can’t create YouTube content?
Who says you can’t be an artist?
No one has the right to dictate what you do with your creative self. A lot of circumstances are self inflicted. Self doubt is a vicious enemy.
What if I am judged?
What if no one likes it?
If you accept these are going to happen, you can push past it. Without doing, you’ll never know.
Safety is a fixed mindset. It’s free of judgment. It is free of criticism. Safe. Alone. Grey.
If we are truly to reach self actualisation, we can’t be safe. We cannot be fixed in our mindset. We cannot be grey.
We must create for ourselves. We must grow.
